What is the Significance of Bar Mitzvah Hats?
![]() |
Bar mitzvah hats, most often known as yarmulkes, are customary headgear for Jewish men. The yarmulke is a thin fabric hat that is small and rounded. It is most always worn by men only as women usually cover their heads with scarves. This hat is worn during religious services by Jewish males. However, in some communities it is customary for Jewish men to wear their yarmulke almost all of the time. Sometimes, the color of the hat has spiritual meaning. For example, some Haredi Jewish sects are designated by the wearing of the black yarmulke.
The wearing of the yarmulke designates one as a member of the Jewish faith and adheres to the commandment of the Torah. It is thought that these hats signify that the wearer recognizes G_d as being above the rest of us. Even though there may be some differences of opinion as to why this hat was originally designed to be worn by Jewish males, there is no dobut that it remains a solid and significant symbol worn by Jewish men.
Of course, there are more hats worn at a bar mitzvah than just the yarmulke. I'm talking of course about party hats! The bar mitzvah is not just a religious ceremony, but also a happy celebration. It is the day when a boy aged 13 is deemed a Jewish man. A bar mitzvah party often includes a lot of the same things as a big birthday celebration or wedding reception. This means party hats, party favors, snacks, cake, presents, dancing, entertainment and more. It's estimated that the average Jewish parents spend more than $9,000 on their son's bar mitzvah. The bat mitzvah, which is basically the same thing, is the celebration held for a Jewish girl who has turned 12 which is the age of adulthood.
Bar mitzvah hats can be as fun and frivolous as you want them to be. You can go for colorful pointed party hats or even fun top hats emblazoned with the words Mazel Tov. There are all kinds of bar mitzvah party favors and supplies available from suppliers all over the country. The Internet is a great place to begin your search for the perfect bar mitzvah supplies. You can often find the widest selection and best price when you shop online.
